Mata St. Cafe
From the early days of being inspired by watching his mother create dishes from scratch, Chef John Mesa brings Mata Street Restaurant – a fresh home-style eatery, serving a unique twist on the traditional tastes of home. The brand/identity design and web presence were inspired by the creative cuisine which showcases an eclectic mix of farm fresh ingredients, homemade sauces and memorable flavors to satisfy any palette.
Hand-made
Hand-lettering expresses the bold, hand-made nature of the Mata St. cuisine. The mark gives a nod to handmade country signs and is meant to be a symbol that welcomes patrons into the casual and warm dining atmosphere.
Palette
The Mata St. palette is comprised of important pillars of Chef John’s childhood. Teal and navy represent the island waters which surrounded him as a child while brown and gray accents represent color of his mom’s house and the concrete outdoor kitchen where meals were regularly prepared.
Vintage signage
A large part of the restaurant is the bakery which fills the room with the smell of fresh cookies, pies and muffins. I created a small set of package stamps that resembled old country bakeries and could be applied to each box of goodies that left the restaurant.
